     - Development of analytical and numerical methods/algorithms for the performance quantification of complex lifeline networks under natural hazards, including seismic and hurricane events. - Development of probabilistic tools to study interdependent infrastructure systems and associated decision making under uncertainty. - Evaluation of the topological and functional controllability of networked systems. - Development of spatio-temporal methods to measure the heterogeneity of coupling strengths across lifeline networks. - Resilience evaluation of distributed smart grids under normal and abnormal operation conditions. - Development of logic-based system reliability methods to handle combinatorial state spaces. - Application of optimization, graph theory, reliability theory, and computational complexity tools for the functional assessment of engineered systems. - Hurricane risk assessment and examination of evacuation behavior in coastal cities.
     
    Teaching Areas
     CEVE 424/524 - “Time-dependent system reliability modeling”. Provides the foundations to assess the reliability and risk of complex engineering systems. Modern theoretical and computational methods to link component reliability to system-level reliability are derived and implemented.

    CEVE 492/592 - “Modeling and analysis of complex infrastructure systems”. Teaches concepts of graph theory, complex systems, and network science applicable to the modeling, analysis, and prediction of performance of infrastructure systems.

    CEVE/STAT 313 - “Uncertainty and risk for engineers”. Explores decision theory, decision analysis tools, statistics of extremes, and Bayesian statistics among other topics for quantifying uncertainty and support practical decision making.
