 Houston Area Survey

Research Areas
Contemporary social change, survey research methodologies, urban and environmental sociology, the annual Houston Area Survey (1982–Present).

The Houston Area Survey, 1982-Present
For 23 years, Klineberg and his students (in SOCI 436) have been conducting an annual series of random-digit-dialed telephone interviews that have provided continually updated and reliable information on the demographic patterns, attitudes, and life experiences of Harris County residents. The surveys document the new educational and environmental challenges that have redefined the "pro-growth" strategies of the twenty-first century. And they track the immigration flows that have transformed this Anglo-dominated, biracial city into one of the nation's most ethnically and culturally diverse metropolitan areas. The research has proven to be a unique and valuable resource for the Houston community as a whole, as well as a genuine contribution to social science research in general.
