"Victorian Honeymoons: The Formation of Conjugality 1830-1890"
A book that looks at the history of and cultural work performed by the honeymoon at the time of its popularization in the Victorian period. Based on a case study of 63 actual couples, as well as on literary representation of honeymoons, the book argues that the honeymoon was associated with and helped to create an ideal of conjugality based on privacy, withdrawal, and the reorientation of identity.
