     theoretical linguistics, semantics, first/second language acquisition, language pedagogy, methodology and assessment.
    Research Statement

    My areas of research interest focus on the language acquisition of Chinese and the development and assessment of the methodologies of teaching Chinese as a second language from the perspective of theoretical linguistics, first/second language acquisition theories, and applied linguistics. Current Research and Pedagogical Projects included: 1) providing professional development for Chinese language teachers; 2) Stregthing the language programs in K-16 schools and colleges; 3) Developing professional eWorkshop for World Language teachers; 4) Themantic and Performance-based Language Approaches; 5) Designing AP Chinese curriculum for the College Board; 6) Exploring Chinatown project: Integrating language, culture and community; 7) Three-semester ePortfolio assessment of four skills; 8) effectively using technology in language teaching; 9) Teaching Chinese through songs; 10)Assessment of the heritage students in the Chinese schools in the Greater Houston Area
